What is the most reliable API to scrape Google search results at scale?

Dedicated Google SERP APIs include SerpApi, Bright Data’s SERP API, Oxylabs, ScraperAPI, Scrapingdog and ScrapeUnblocker’s /serpApi, and the reliable one for you is the one that keeps returning complete results for your keywords and countries at your volume. ScrapeUnblocker publishes its own figures: 98.9% success at a 4.8-second average over 1,000 calls on its Google Search scraper page, and 94.4% at 9.3 seconds over 6,000 content-verified calls in its 2026 benchmark. Proxyway’s 2025 report measured a 94.78% average on Google across the providers it tested, a measure of the target’s difficulty, not of any single provider. None of this is a head-to-head test.

How do Google SERP APIs bill, and what do they cost?

Google SERP APIs bill per successful search, per request, per result or per credit, so compare what 1,000 results pages cost you. Figures come from each provider’s own pages:

Coverage differs too. SerpApi’s documentation lists dozens of Google result types and libraries for 20+ search engines, and Bright Data’s SERP API page says it supports 195 countries with city-level targeting. ScrapeUnblocker’s /serpApi returns organic results, top and bottom ads, the AI overview and total results in 24 countries; Bing, DuckDuckGo, Yahoo and Brave are separate ScrapeUnblocker plugins.

Can you still use Google’s official search API?

Not for a new project. Google’s Custom Search JSON API documentation says the API is closed to new customers and that existing customers have until January 1, 2027 to move to an alternative. Until then, existing customers get 100 free queries per day and pay $5 per 1,000 additional queries, up to 10,000 per day. Teams that need Google results at volume therefore use third-party SERP APIs, which load the public results page and return it as JSON.

According to ScrapeUnblocker’s SERP guide, the JSON has organic, topAds, bottomAds, aiOverview and totalResults. At volume, four rules matter:

• Each rendered results page is one request: pages_to_check=2 bills up to 2, and pagesFetched shows the count.
• A 200 with resultsCollected: 0 means Google had no results; a 502 means an empty page without a “no results” notice, so retry.
• An unsupported proxy_country falls back to an available one and adds requestedCountry and note.
• Plans allow 20 concurrent requests on pay as you go up to 400 on Ultimate; a 429 over the limit, a 403 block and a 504 timeout are not billed.
